About Jade
Welcome! Thanks for being here. I teach Insight Vinyasa Yoga classes in Totnes, Stoke Gabriel and Marldon in South Devon. I also teach Pregnancy and Mum & Baby Yoga in Totnes. Additionally, I run yoga & meditation retreats in Menorca and Devon. I feel truly grateful to teach yoga; I love to meet people where they are and see the manifold benefits of yoga naturally come to light through continued practice.
My yoga journey started fourteen years ago, first with meditation, then integrating that learning into a physical practice. Eight years ago I felt a strong pull to teach. Today my classes continually evolve, but at their core feature a creative vinyasa flow synchronised with breath, sometimes flowing fast and sometimes slow, finding space within each pose to gain full benefit; stillness, stretch and strength. Insight meditation is taught explicitly and woven into the fabric of each practice, with simple breathwork and meditation practice that can be applied in daily life. My intention is that you leave class feeling integrated, revitalised and physically toned, with a greater sense of connection, freedom and balance.
How I got here
Fifteen years ago, in London, I found myself feeling burnt out and unable to find meaning in what I was doing. I knew I needed to make some major changes. A trip to India turned out to be the lightening rod for that change. In Ladakh I took my first meditation retreat. This turned out to be transformational, and I recognised I was on a completely new path. Curious about the physical side of yoga, in Dharamsala I took my first yoga class. The mental and physical balance that I felt afterwards was simply beautiful and I knew I needed to go deeper.
Studying yoga and meditation in London, Israel, Spain and India, I have come across many wonderful and influential teachers. What strongly arose eight years ago was a pull to share the teachings of yoga and meditation and I began to train to teach. This training is ongoing through life.
I completed Yoga Teacher Training (200hrs) in Goa (India), receiving a traditional Hatha education from Atmarekha (of the Ramakrishna mission) as well as studying Ashtanga Vinyasa and Vinyasa Flow with Veronica Aria and Yin Yoga with Anushree Singh. I am registered with Yoga Alliance International.
I trained as an occupational therapist, making mindfulness the centre of my studies and placements in several London mental health settings.
Of all the approaches to meditation that I have explored, I have found Insight Meditation (or Vipassana, elements of which are today called mindfulness) to be the most powerful and applicable to daily life. I teach what I have learnt in an accessible and practical way.
After several years experimenting with different styles of yoga, I came to love the creative freedom and physical benefit that Vinyasa Flow can offer. I feel it is essential to combine this with an explicit meditation practice, creating a holistic experience.
During my first pregnancy I completed a teacher training course for pre and post natal yoga, along with baby yoga through the BirthLight organisation.
I am always looking for ways to further my own practice and learning. Teachers who I am grateful to for sharing their light include: S.N. Goenka, Stephen Fulder, Atmarekha, Veronica Aria, Anushree Singh, Amit Manber, Naz Khakoo, Micha Merrick, Sally Lomas and most importantly my sons, Leo and Ohri.
“Jade’s classes are phenomenal. She helps you to be present and get the most out of every practice, whilst also sharing ways to continue to benefit from yoga outside her classes.”
